Xonar dx a good match for AD700s?

As the title would imply, I have ordered some ath AD700s this weekend. I am looking for a soundcard under 80 dollars [before rebates is almost totally a must] to allow them to spread their wings properly, and after a lot of searching I have seen that the xonar dx seems to be a well reviewed card here on OCN and in general, and is apparently regarded very well for its sound quality in comparison to some of the "gaming" cards in its price range.

Aside from price, my other requirement is that the card must be a pci express card.

Am I on the right track or is there another option that I have overlooked? creative's x-fi offerings seemed nice but this comparison: http://www.overclock.net/sound-cards...ml#post8131977
has swayed me to the DX side because I care about sound quality more than just gaming performance.

Thanks in advance

I personally combined the Xonar DX and the AD700s together and found they were a good pairing. Not overboard for the AD700s. Just the right card for it in my opinion. Any more would make your AD700s be the bottleneck, any less may not make the AD700s reach their full potential. So I'd try to find a used Xonar DX for under 60 and call it a day.

I agree, i ran my AD700s on both my xonar DX and my xonar STX and the difference was negligible.

Its a very solid pairing, i say go for it.

DXes have been dropping in price recently, to the point you can get them $70 brand new off the egg. Buying used could save you some money though. Both of my sound cards have been used and there have been no problems.

Does asus offer serial warranty like they do on their other products? if so that would definitely sweeten the deal for me.

Also, I've never owned a dedicated sound card before..but if I buy it used [or even new] is the lifetime of a card fairly good or will I need to replace it relatively soon?

50$ after rebate at newegg new sounds pretty good to me, but I'm trying to find a good deal used.

I guess I just started my search at the wrong time. the best I see on ebay is 70 dollars shipped buy it now or bids starting at 60, and the only site selling it new for 60 has 0 ratings from every online store review i can find so I'm guessing it's a scam. I'll keep looking I suppose

Honestly, I hear more stories of people upgrading to a better card because their cards because they want something better than because their card died.

Almost never hear about DX's dying. I'm pretty sure Asus has a 3 year warranty, but even so, don't expect it to die any time soon. It'll die even less than a graphics card will. They last long. People still have their Audigy 2ZS' (such as myself) and those still work.

Try head-fi for sale section and OCN for sale section.

Glanced at head fi, I'll dig some more. OCN currently doesn't have the DX, and I had posted a wanted thread a while ago which I'll bump.

edit: nothing that I can see on head-fi, but then again I could just suck at navigating/searching those forums

Thanks for the reassurance

In regards to finding one used, I've been looking the past few weeks and haven't had any luck on finding a good deal. I'll probably just buy it new for 70 at newegg, mail in my 20 dollar rebate and be happy with it.
