I think your gpu set up is a good idea. Makes it easy to transition into dual 570 without buying both 570 right away
He's got a single 570, so its the same as any other single 570. The only time he'll see increases with the 460 as PhysX is in PhysX titles, and I don't think BF3 is a PhysX title.

But yes, a single 570 is enough to max out BF3 or close, at 1080p.

You don't need gobs of VRAM honestly at 1080p. You could also just SLI another 460 1GB now, and you'd have more than enough power for BF3 or any other game. 1GB of VRAM is just fine for 1080p honestly. You might have to lower AA levels a bit (only with insanely intensive games), but otherwise it should be fine.

my only problem with this path though, its he will soon (next year atleast) be hitting a wall with vram, i started experiencing it about 2 months ago with games, at 1080, so if u dont need everything set to the highest, get a second 460 it should keep you going for 2 years, however with more vram, i should be able to max my games for another 2, then start lowering stuff after that point.

i dont really see the point of spending money to "side grade" if a vram wall is his problem, sli-ing wont really do much to solve it, sure he might see good boosts, but its like fighting off a cold by picking your nose, sure it works, but for how long?

He's not at a VRAM wall though. Your GTX570 only has 256MB more VRAM than his 460 does. If he adds another 460 in, it'll outperform even my single 580.

sounds like a vram wall?
