$1500 gaming PC build

Thread Starter

My friend seriously needs a new rig (Athlon 64 3200+ just doesn't cut it). I decided to help him make one and came up with this. He will seriously be overclocking the CPU, RAM, and the graphics card. He'll be doing hard core gaming on it too. He also needs it to be future proof for at least 5 years. His upgrade is basically getting a Ivy Bridge after a few years, adding another radeon 6950, and probably a few more hard drives. I also want to know if getting the GTX 570 is worth it instead of a radeon 6950. I also want your suggestions too!

Don't get the vertex, get the Crucial m4. OCZ has a flaky controller. I'd also get the 2GB version of the 6950, and possibly the HX850 rather than TX if you care at all about wire management.

If he's just gaming I doubt he will see a performance difference from the 2500K, especially if he overclocks it well. I would get a 570 from the money saved in getting a 2500K.

Will the 2600k be more futureproof? Still need to know which GPU to pick.

Crucial M4 is what OCN recommends. It is the most dependable one out there.

I swear I saw a MSI GTX 570 somewhere for $260...
Oh and go for a 2500k to save money, 2600k is useless for gaming compared to the 2500k.
