955 C2, 2x4GB Crucial Ballistix Sport (freezes)

Hi,
Just got this kit. Before I had 2x2 G.Skill 1333 and it was always kind of flaky - seems like certain slots are acting odd. After installing the Ballistix it's remained a bit unstable and froze every 5 to 15 minutes after boot. I took the ram out of slot 1 and 2 and stuck it in 3 and 4. It freezes now once every hour to three hours. I can play games without a problem; it most often locks up on the desktop.

Have run memtest for about an hour (didn't fully finish). I've got a hunch it's something to do with voltage or clock rate.

1.5v Kit: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148420

Specs
955 BE C2 @ 3.71, 1.45v, 200/x18.5 (no bus increase)
NB/CPU @ 2200, no voltage increase
HT stock/stock
Ram at stock, 9.9.9.24/1 @ 1333, voltage 'auto' (reports 1.6v)
Asus M4A78T-E

I've just updated to the latest bios so I'm in limbo testing and waiting for it to lock on me.

Do I need to up the NB/CPU voltage or should I take the speed back to 1066?
Should I separate the channels and put one stick in slot 1 and the other is slot 3?
Any other advice is welcomed!

check how the ram is supposed to be installed i know most boards ive owned the ram needed to be in matching slots

like 1 and 3

also 2 and 4

might just be in wrong slots

I'll try that if it happens again. I have read that separating the channels helps stability. Looks like I've got the dimms in their recommended slots according to Asus. I have a2 and b2 filled and have tried it with a1/b1 which was far worse.

Well it did it again as soon as I got into a BF3 beta game.
Split the ram a1/a2 but it's only running in single channel mode and there is quite a drop in performance. I think I'm going to up the NB voltage a smidge.

just so you are aware nvidia drivers crashing in BF3 beta is a known issue witht he beat drivers and might not be related to you system at all.

Good Luck!

Thanks~! It was happening randomly. I took my CPU overclock back to 3.6/1.35v and it hasn't crashed in 48 hours. I think I need more voltage on the CPU or need to step up the NB a bit. I'll wait until I get a new mobo or an x6. 1.5v is a bit too rich for my blood and the C2
