Are Memory heatsinks really needed?

Thread Starter
I am getting a new XFX 6950 2GB Wed. I am putting the new Arctic Cooling Twin Turbo 2 on it. On this card their is a heatsink strip on the VRM's so they will be cooled for sure and it doesn not get in the way of the twin turbo. But I would like to leave the memory heatsinks off since, well to be honest they look dumb and always tend to fall off. If I am not overclocking is it safe to not use the heatsinks on the memory?
