Wireless Problem Defeating Me

Thread Starter
Today I powered on my desktop only to find I was not connected to the internet but I was connected to the wireless network. I use a TP-Link TL-WN722N USB wireless adapter on my sig rig.

What I did in order of execution:

1. Reset my router and modem by switching off the UPS they're connected to and switching it on again after a few seconds.

2. After discovering that didn't work, I assumed that something was wrong with the USB adapter, additionally my brother had moved it to another port on the front panel, so I returned it to it's original port since I setup the PC a few days ago and the internet was working fine until now.

3. I uninstalled the USB adapter and its drivers and software and reinstalled it.
NO positive result. I am currently connected to the net via my laptop, so it seems only my desktop is not connecting.

Windows 7 troubleshooting is telling me my modem is giving an issue, but how can it if me and everyone else in the building can connect and I can't via my desktop?

I checked to see if I was in the same workgroup and that was fine, I also checked to see if IPv4 and V6 were set to auto detect.

This really beats me how all of a sudden I'm offline. I hope someone can help

May I suggest you try the USB adapter in another machine to try and narrow down the issue?

wait. Are you on a modem only? Or do you have a separate router? Most modems are limited to one address and require a separate router to hand out the DHCP IP Addresses.

Uh.. a modem is basically pointless without a router anyway (unless you're dialing straight in, which he can't be...), and I've not seen any modem/router combo that limits itself to only one client....

Although do feel free to list a modem/router combo or router that does do this and correct me!
