Corsair AX850 Gold or HX850 Silver? - Page 3

If looks matter so much, sleeve all the cables yourself. Corsair stated as long as the psu isn't opened, the warranty still counts(HX)
Honestly both PSU's are fantastic and you can't go wrong with either. I obviously went with the AX850 but I have an HX750 from my previous build and it was flawless. Intend to reuse it with my next HTPC build...

HX850 is also gold rated, why pay more for the AX

Pretty sure Newegg says it's silver rated unless it's straight-up wrong

Click rating in the top right of the chart and select gold from the dropdown menu. Neweggs wrong on this one.

They are both gold rated. But I like the full modular factor of the AX850.

HX850:

"We designed the HX750W and HX850W to the 80Plus Silver specification. We were very pleased when we learned that the HX750/850W units tested by 80Plus qualified for 80Plus Gold certification. We believe that this honor reflects the engineering efforts we put into every product. The HX750/850W didn’t simply meet the Silver specification to which it was designed; it outperformed it.

However, the margin by which the test unit fell into the Gold specification was not large enough to ensure that every HX750/850W we produce will also qualify for Gold certification. We believe in standing behind our products; we cannot make a marketing claim based on test results that were so close to the edge of the Gold and Silver specifications. Because of this, we have chosen to market the HX750/850W as Silver, not Gold. " -Ram Guy -> http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81637

Fully modular?

I heard from someone of these forums that since its so close to the silver, even though technically it could pass as gold, they rate it as silver because they dont want to stretch a rating.

I was looking for that. Whats weird is that there is less than 1% difference between the ax/hx series efficiency wise and the ax is marketed as gold. Splitting hairs maybe?
