Extremely strange issue with i7 875k

Thread Starter
MOBO: ASUS P7P55D-E PRO
CPU: i7 875k
PSU: Seasonic 750w
RAM: G.Skill ripjaws 1600
GPU: 6950 -- confirmed working (tried a working 5770)

Computer will not POST. I am helping a friend build a computer and have been overclocking and building computers for ~10years and have seen anything like this. The weird thing is that he has RMA'd his motherboard twice already, CPU once, and GPU once. I have tried taking out my gpu and ram from my working system and there is no change. Computer will power on, and then shut right off again (<1 second), and the computer will not turn back again on until the psu is reset (mobo still has power, no system or psu fans running either). This seems like it's a short but it still does this out of the case with different hardware, etc. I apologize for the tech support request, but I have exhausted all troubleshooting, so what could possibly be the issue here?

You didn't specify if the PSU is in that "different hardware" category.

I read your post 3 times to make sure that you didn't mention anywhere that you tried a different power supply....

So if you didn't, I'd be leaning towards that as the culprit!

I'll try that later today some time and let you know how it works. I always figured a company like Seasonic would make sure it would work properly due to the premium on their PSUs. I guess I should stop making those kind of assumptions.

EDIT: I asked my friend whether or not he has tried a new psu and he said he did. I will still try one later tonight though.

No, you're dead right - I've never had a Seasonic or a re branded Seasonic PSU fail on me, but you just never know.
