BSOD with WD external USB3

Thread Starter
My external HDD's dont show up in my computer now.

My small USB2 external drive makes the detection sound but wont show up at all or even in my computer.

My WD 3TB USB3 external makes detected sounds & then makes the sounds a second time & then I get a Blue screen crash.

Some other strangness, my 2nd internal SATA drive sometimes just dissapears & wont show up again until I reset.

My virus & malaware bytes scan & found nothing. Tried a system restore to a day earlier before this happened, but still didnt fix it. Only system changes I have done recently is installing a USB modem for wirless internet. which all was good for a few days.

This happens on my other external HDDs, so it cant be a problem with the the one drive. I use vista 32-bit ultimate
Please help .

Thanks.

Uninstall the USB Modem driver and see if that changes it.

Just post the BCCode that appears

It'll look like 0x000008e or something along those lines.

Uninstalling the modem driver didnt seem to make a digfference.

Did uninstalling the USB Modem driver fix it?

This BSOD can be caused by a plethora of things. Driver incompatibility, hardware failure, software errors, etc. Hopefully your motherboard isn't the culprit. You could run Memtest86+ to verify the RAM is working properly.

But first things first, let's see if you can recreate the error with just basic peripherals.

Remove all peripherals except for the Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor. If the BSOD occurs again, then it has something to do with the base system and not the peripherals you have attached. It will give a better start to pinpointing the problem.

Keep only keyboard, mouse, monitor, & still comes up with BSOD.

Maybe I have to update the usb drivers? My mother board is only 1yr+ old. And same as ram.

Your motherboard may need to be RMA'd then if at all possible.
