i7 930 4.0ghz Milestone - Page 2

Dude, your mounting is dodgy, 8c between cores is pretty far out, I'd give your heatsink a reseat with some good TIM. anything below 80 - 85 for benchning is fine.

Don't disable your HT, if you disable that then you should have just gone with an i5 and been done with it.

What fans you using on that cooler?

I disagree HT does not add that much performance and it generates huge amounts of heat. I kept HT off when I was running on air. Never had HT affect my OC as in no need for more vcore when its turned on.

The QPI is fine, The stock fans with the D-14 are fine for general use, but i'd have a look at some GT AP-15's, they are by far the best fans out there at the moment

You clearly don't know what HT actually does, it gives you a MASSIVE increase in multithreaded applications such as folding, VMware and a number of server based applications. Also, it doesn't generate that much heat, I have it on with a 4Ghz OC on my 920 with an H50 and I hit around 78c on full load, I've lapped my processor so that helps anyway.

I know the basics. HT splits up 4 physical cores to 8 logical ones in an attempt to better utilize the pipelines. You say massive increase in heavily threaded software.

Well I do 3D rendering that's about as multi threaded as stuff gets and I get around a 10% increase in speed when I have HT enabled. Some times it is a bit more but never any thing I would call massive.

As for heat I get an about 8C increase and IMO this is pretty substantial as an 8C overhead can get you quite bit of more MHz out of the CPU.

Looks pretty good. What are your other settings like? If they are running on auto they are probably running @ higher volts then is actually needed.

Thous settings look good to me. As for bridge temps I really don't know for sure but IMO any thing under 60C should be safe. Actually I have no idea how hot my are running as they don't have sensors
