is this the future for PC gaming?

I'm sorry guys, but I can't take this anymore.

Brink - #fail
Crysis 2 - horribly low res textures / dx9 / multiplayer #fail
Dead Island - holy F
Red Orchestra 2 - buggy_as_hell / managed to screw ue3
Battlefield 3 Beta - [see forum]
Rage - ...textures, no options, little sli optimization (manages to ruin immersion...in a post-apocalyptic game--kinda important)

How many more games will be released, hyped to heaven, only to be awfully optimized, full of bugs, and REQUIRING a patch w/i the first week? How many more EPIC games that come from VETERAN developers will turn out to be linear, unimaginative, and cheap ports?

id software's release has been the most hardest for me, i mean...id, Johnny C, DOOOM. These guys were making a video every week leading up to release talking about how awesome the new tech is, how they see the problems w/ the current generation in gaming, how they're pushing boundaries, creating memorable characters and a catchy storyline. I had a distinct feeling of RELIEF last night when i was finishing the final download for Rage, relieved that i could finally relax in my chair (or try) and enjoy a polished, solid game, purely for entertainment--think blockbuster action movies w/o Shia Lebouf.

I'm not going to lie to myself like some are doing about these releases, saying that I'm never supporting the DEVs again! or I want my money back!, i'm a pc gamer, but it is a little heartbreaking to be let down repeatedly

i'm expecting the first responses to be those of "your expectations were too high" "you hyped the games too much, yourself"
...yeah, right. *I* am the one hyping these releases.

Cheers.

Then don't buy the game on release day and wait a week for some reviews.

Problem solved.

Why have you included BF3 when it's not even a final release?

Crysis 2: Incredibly Fun, Best looking game out with the DX11 and Texture patch

Dead Island 2: incredibly fun

Battlefield 3: Lots of fun, caspian border was what battlefield was meant to be

Rage: Game looks great, controls great, and the only problem with it is the low resolution textures, which John Carmack said would be there.

Brink: Great shooter, but had server problems when it first came out.

I dont see the problem here.

Do you know how hard it is to develop a AAA game?

A AAA game 10 years ago is completely different from a AAA today. In fact, most developers today could build Nintendo-era games in a few weeks. Back then it would take a group a few months. Even something Doom could be written pretty quickly today.

Note: SLI optimization is mainly the responsibility of NVIDIA.

crysis 2 patch was what? months after release? though i agree w/ you that dx11+textures are slick.

caspian border is awesome, but the beta issue surrounding bf3, coupled w/ the debate about beta vs. demo in contemporary gaming has been disappointing. don't get me wrong i preordered bf3 back in july, can't wait.

dead island 2: you can't be serious

nice to see other vets around here

I think YOU'RE misssing the point. Games will be multiplatform so that they can pay for the giant teams that it takes to develop a game like Crysis 2 and Rage. Go look for lordikon's post on what exactly a console port would be.

And talking about polish. Rage is probably one of the most polished games I've ever played. I'm getting 60 FPS, great controls, and the game looks fantastic when you're playing it. I'm sorry that you spent a lot of money on your PC and its not fully utilizing your hardware, but this is the world we live in.

not to be too argumentative but, ummmm, no. I'm the consumer.

do you know how irresponsible it is to be a AAA developer and release unsatisfactory performing merchandise?

Not to bash or anything, But... I don't think it makes sense to include a BETA that's a month behind in the actual coding and isn't a final release.
