is this the future for PC gaming? - Page 6

OP I have to agree with you...this is coming from someone who was a pure console player for a long time and has just recently turned to PC gaming again (mostly due to Rage, but so far the comments/reviews haven't won me over).

I used to be a PC gamer prior to turning to consoles and during the golden age you could expect a lot of variety in PC games...or the games didn't seem so dull or soulless like they are nowadays.

Nowadays it seems like everything is FPS or MMO which is HELLA boring. That's why I turned to console gaming cuz you can get awesome variety in games like God of War 3, Vanquish, Resident Evil, etc.

Rage was the one and only game that I was keeping my hopes up for now that I've returned to the PC gaming scene, but even then it was more of a desperate hope since the PC gaming genre is so severely limited.

If anything, the only reason I'm getting into PC gaming now is so I can learn about overclocking a high-end machine and enjoy the highest graphics technology.

It's less about having fun with PC games for me since I can have way more fun with my PS3 games.

So yea, the state of PC games is quite sad and I can't help but wish we can get something more original or fun in PC games instead of these soulless FPS's and MMO's.

Its just a fact of life now, especially with developers having the limited amount of time they have to work on their games since the consumers keep screaming "NOW NOW NOW".

I dont listen to the reviewers because most of them do not share the same interests as me.
Release Dates are normally a Publisher problem. EA/Activision are known to force developers to have it done by a certain day.

Valve honestly does the best job in the industry at the moment in my opinion. No doubt they do screw up, but they hardly have gameplay bugs that are game changing.

The whole industry is more business oriented now as well. They hire people who are looking to make money, they give unrealistic deadlines and push out the product because their senior management says they have to.

There is a very limited amount of companies today that couldn't care less about public opinion and expectations, and will only release a game when they feel like they did their best. Blizzard is the only big company that does that today.
Truth. Valve isn't too far behind though.

Someone should release more Nintendo-era-like games then.
I wouldn't mind another Final Fantasy 6, Castlevania IV, or LoZ: A Link to the Past.
Final Fantasy 7* corrected

PC Games are definitely declining in quality. Obviously exceptions like Starcraft 2 for a good example. It's hard to deny that PC Games overall quality has gone down.

@OP
The fact you even mentioned BF3, you should of known that you were going to be flamed for it

Those who are saying that its a BETA, not final release. Not to bash BF3, but more of the concept of BETA's these days. BETA's have been very much like the final release. BC2 as a example, buggy BETA, buggy final released product. BC2 still has bullet registration that is very noticeable even today. The issue is even noticed on LAN with all the same PC's, so it has nothing to do with individuals internet/PC. It's literally the only exception. I definitely think it will be a good multiplayer game once the the netcode/client sided registration is fixed. It's not a easy fix at all, and would require a lot of engine work. That's time I cant see any developer wanting to put in this late into development.

TL;DR - None available as its not that long...

OP, I completely agree with where you're coming from, except I'm more of a realist. AAA games take forever and a day to create. They can playtest them until they die from exhaustion and they still won't be able to catch some of the bugs simply because the lab and a handfull of platesters does not equal the real world and tens or hundreds of thousand of gamers. As for graphics, get real dude they get their money from consoles. Better to piss off a few of us than the whole market.

And lastly, I KNOW I can't do any better, so I accept what they give me, and I'm damn grateful for it. If it weren't for these "crappy" games I'd have to go outside or read a book or something. Bleh.

Edit- You really mentioned the BF3 beta? Really? You know what beta releases are used for, right? Fixing all these things you're complaining about.

If I was a game developer today and I had to listen to as much whining and complaining as I've seen on a certain unnamed games forum I'd sell my business, buy a deserted island with my loot and get as far away from gamers as I could

once again, my post has been misinterpreted. Shocker.

Have you ever been to a movie theater to see a new blockbuster and you can tell that the speakers are bad? or there's a freakin' line running through the middle of the screen? maybe the projector isn't square?

if so, did you ever have a fleeting annoyance that you weren't getting your money's worth?

please close thread
