I even find my blackberry to be too large to comfortably clip to my belt under a suit.

If I didn't absolutely have to use a blackberry for work purposes I would be looking for the smallest cellphone possible.

I have to admit I'm a bit confused about cell phones today. For every other type of electronics, smaller-more compact is better and yet cellphones keep getting bigger and bigger. We had an option to upgrade to a new blackberry with a touchscreen (not the torch, the other one) and the thing was bloody huge!
I agree. I had a look at some of the latest phones in the AT&T store the other day, and couldn't really imagine fitting some of them in my pocket. Not to mention the detriment to battery life! I wouldn't mind a screen slightly larger than my 3GS has, but I don't think I'd want one as big as they have available now!

Ok, so screw the benchmarks, and screw what Apple says, you'll hold on to rumors? Come on... now I wouldn't put it past Apple to fudge the numbers, but even 6x as fast as the current iPhone 4 would make it twice as fast as the S2's graphics capabilities.

Moreover, the 3GS was released into a heavily unsaturated smart phone market, whereas now the 4S barely holds it's own against phones released months ago (SII, Atrix, Nexus S, etc) with the upcoming Nexus Prime and Samsung phones which are going to absolutely mop the floor with the 4S.

This was a huge monumental fail for Apple. They had the opportunity to really create a great phone. Unfortunately, I feel like it is complete arrogance on their part, as they know they can release whatever they want, label it the next big thing, and people will still buy it. Hopefully it bites them in the ass this time.
As the benchmarks I posted above have already shown, the iPhone 4S is much, MUCH faster than all of the other top smartphone competitors. The CPU is several times faster than the S2's CPU, and the GPU should be more than twice as fast as the S2's GPU if Apple's claim of 7x as fast as the current iPhone 4 is correct.

I'd hardly call that a monumental fail, or "barely holding its own".

The lack of case redesign is disappointing, however the iPhone 4S still looks pretty good. I'm positively curious about Siri, I'm happy about the A5 and it seems they've used the SGX543MP2 (and not just one) and they've thrown in a really good camera. Here's to hoping for 1GB of RAM.

I can't wait to see Anandtech's review of it.

If it has 1 gig of ram, I wouldn't mind getting the 4S The lack of 4G is a bit disappointing but it seems like a solid upgrade to me. I still think the design is sexy, after all this time.

We don't even know if Apple's claims are that accurate, especially that the A5 wasn't too far ahead of Tegra 2 when comparing the iPad 2 versus the Xoom, Galaxy Tab 10.1 etc. It would be better if they release the full spec sheet of the processor, and provide us with the most accurate benchmark scores for a legitimate comparison.

I think the 4S has the potential to beat the S2, but then again the S2's true capabilities can be hampered by inefficient benchmark software (since it's proprietary Samsung design) and Android OS itself.

The iPhone 4S has the A5 processor.

The A5 processor has been benchmarked in a variety of ways by a variety of people.

What more do you want to see?

If it's the same exact A5 found on the iPad 2. Remember, the iPhone 4's A4 chip was a neutered version of the one from its larger sibling.

Apple does not want to cause fragmentation for Developers, if they introduced a new resolution or screen size then devs would have to update their apps with new textures.. and if they did not then they would not look as nice just like the horrible upscaling from iphone apps on ipad

Why do you people insist on carrying at 4.6" screen in your pocket? Do you really need that big of a screen? I never saw the hype around smartphones. I absolutely hate them, simply because they over complicate something that was designed to be simple.
