i5 2500k high idle temp??

Hey all,

my current system is in my sig. I've got my 2500k currently overclocked to 4.2Ghz with a manual set voltage of 1.3V

first question: how come cpu-z shows me a voltage of 1.35 volts when stress testing (prime95 that is)?

at idle the voltage stays around 1.31 volts and it downclocks to 1.6Ghz...
but the voltage doesn't "idle", if you know what I mean. That's probably because of the manual set voltage I guess?

Now, the temps, I find the idle temps a bit too high: 42-44° on the hottest core (that is while idling on desktop, a bit browsing, music playing, ... but all that at only 1600Mhz...)

My load temps are more than fine (I guess?), they max out at 62° while running prime 95 maximum heat test...

Any way to solve this higher idle temp?

Idle temps don't mean a thing mate, and 62 while running Prime is fine.

Looks fine to me. My 2500k idles at 35-40 degrees, which is perfectly acceptable.

I get around 75 degrees while running Prime 95 blend, and ~55 when playing BF3 at high settings

Is there an offset feature for your motherboard? If there is, try using that one. For some reason with my mobo, if I hard set it to a voltage it stays there, but if I use offset, it lowers the voltage during idle.

Oh, and I idle around 38 I think.

ah thanks all, that reassures me

i'm gonna take a look at that offset...

I used this guide to oc:

http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...-oc-guide.html

don't see anything that looks like an offset voltage? Guess MSI doesn't support it?

Still, does someone know why HWMonitor, speedfan, en cpu-z give 1.35V while I set it at 1.30V in my bios?

As stated your idle's are not to be concerned. Your maxing at 62c with prime then your just fine.

If your still concerned about idle temps you can drop your ambients a few and turn on a fan or ceiling fan.

been running prime95 for half an hour now and i have to review my temps..

hottest core is 63° but TMPIN0 (which is cpu temp according to google) shows maximum of 67°, but it only peaks there a few second, every few minutes, for the rest it just stays @ 63-64°.

Is this cpu temp important or should I only check core temps??

is 67° still ok?

67 is fantastic. Anything below 80 degrees is great for an overclocked SB CPU.

Mine runs at 75 degrees max in Prime95 blend at 1.32v. At stock volts it was a lot cooler.
