Is this nickel flaking on my bitspower block?

Thread Starter
hey guys, I am new to this forum. I just purchased a bunch of new watercooling parts and I just want to know if this RAM block from bitspower I just bought from performance pcs is ok.

Do you guys think this is nickel flaking or corrosion? It's brand-new, I just opened the acrylic cover.

Looks like its quite possibly just dirty or thin plating. AFAIK several people have gotten items that were just dirty and a quick cleaning was all it took.

Thanks for the suggestion. So I tried washing it with a mild vinegar solution. It didn't seem to help overall; the dark blue spots on the right still remain. Also, that slight copper-like coloring on the round corners worries me. Is that ok?

I would RMA it, you do not want to take a chance with something like this.

Seems like everyone is having QC problems lately...... I would RMA it since it looks like something is amiss with the plating.

That's not flaking, it's just discoloration and if that's electroless nickel(which it should be for this application) that's what it may look like since there are multiple finishes available with electroless. It's not there for show like regular nickel plating, it's there for corrosion resistance and surface flatness. If it was flaking, it would slice your fingers open like a razor blade if you ran them across it. I also assume those are water droplets in the recesses..?

Hey Cavi Mike, so do you think that is just harmless discolorations that I can safely ignore? Yeah those are water droplets, I took a picture right after I washed the block.

I would hate to have to RMA it if it's just benign flaws.

sometimes when they polish or grind the block, it leaves a burn mark, usually afterward it is dipped in a acid type bath to complete it's process, which burns away most of the discoloration and impurities, the final polishing removes the rest, but sometimes not all as too much polishing.. It'll wear off the nickel back to seeing the copper...

I believe that is how it is done, someone correct me if I am wrong..

My bitspower 580 all look like that, once running with liquid inside, it's barely noticeable, I cleaned mine off with some vinegar to get rid of a lot of factory oil.. sure we all want blocks to look 100% perfect, but the quality of your block looks good to me...
