beginners nikon lens

Hi chaps

was wondering whether anyone could offer any suggestions. Recently started AS photography in the evenings and decided to get myself a 35mm slr camera since that's what well be using for our assignments.

Found a Nikon F65 for a good price, body only though.

From what I can tell in the beginning well be shooting mostly landscapes and the like and was wondering whether anyone could recommend a suitable lens to go with it.

I'm fairly new to all of this, although enjoying myself immensely in the first couple of weeks so far and finding this bit a little trickier than it probably should be.

Cheers in advance

I am in the same boat as you feeling over my head with Lens selection for night shots. With my lenses I can not seem to get those crisp shots as others seem to but it is likely user error. SInce yours is a film camera I am even less help there. I think you would need a 35mm or 50mm lens with an F/1.8 for sure maybe even 1.4. Could be wrong though. It depends on what you really want to do. I think the F65 will not do any metering with a MF lens so you need an Autofocus lens. Am I correct on this? From what I found in the google machine the only usable MF lens that is common is the 45mm F2.8P. Some other lens I saw reccomended were the 28-105 AF-D Nikkor and the 28-75 F2.8 tamron

A 50mm f/1.8 prime would be great to start with for landscapes and low light. If you want something more versatile, you can probably find a used 28-70mm which used to be the kit lens for the N65 (F65). A cheaper kit lens is fine for landscapes as you'll be shooting those at f/8 and above anyway where almost any lens is sharp.

I would suggest the 50mm if you're looking for a prime. It's' cheap and sharp.

So from the advice so far ive found two lenses that seem to fit the bill. Out of these which would you choose?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nikon-50mm...item1e675a6747

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Nikon-...item5646627987

unless i'm going completely in the wrong direction, if you could possibly recommend anything more suitable.

Thanks

Right direction, wrong market. eBay is so hit and miss when dealing with glass (though other accessories I've had absolutely no problems with). What's the UK equivalent of B&H or Adorama?

Honestly i'm so new to this I have no idea what kind of reliable retailers there are for the camera market right now.

Found this:

http://www.dontilo.com/lenses/nikon-...n-af-50mm-f18d

First question is, since i'm assuming this is designed for DSLR, will this fit my f65.

Also if anyone from the UK knows of other places I could be looking feel free to let me know. I'm in no huge rush at the moment so can afford to look at my options before i buy

Also thanks for all the helpful advice so far

The second one: 50mm 1.8D. The first one will not autofocus and I believe won't meter on your camera. As for camera shops in the UK, try amazon:

B&H Photo will also ship to the UK.

Edit: Check out this if you want a cheap zoom instead:
