and since we currently dont have any Origin required games on Steam we won't know for sure what the case is. Using GFWL as a barometer is fine, acting like it makes something a fact isn't.
? what are you on about mate.

Origin was confirmed as being a requirement to run BF3 before BF3 was pulled from Steam from memory. it's EA's way of maintaing complete control over their title i imagine, plus it allows them to do whatever they want to the game, its online component and more importantly, its DLC. not to mention it gives them sole control over marketing it. they know how big a hit its going to be. why pay another distributor fees and rights when you can just do it all yourself.

BF3 was barred from Steam during the whole DLC drama and EA's apparent violation of Steam/Valve's ToS regarding in-game DLC with Crysis 2. Steam didnt bar BF3 directly either, they barred EA titles and so EA has now stated it wont be providing BF3 on Steam. along with several other EA titles.

BF3 not appearing on Steam has nothing to do with requiring Origin to run. its all the little political behind the scenes crap regarding DLC, who gets paid what, who controls that and how etc etc.

what dont people understand about that? a fact is a fact, whether people can see it or not. BF3 will require Origin to run, as confirmed by EA. Steam or no Steam. my guess is the current discussions between Valve and EA are regarding what i mentioned above, how the game and its DLC is controlled which leads me to believe, based on that fact, that if they do allow BF3 to be sold on Steam, then Origin may operate as a service very similar to how GFWL currently functions.

that is my opinion, based on the facts at hand.

BATTLEFIELD 3 WILL REQUIRE ORIGIN TO RUN

how many times does this need to be clarified, even after all the confirmations of it being a hard, set in stone fact.
ok never said it's not required... you can tell us more times if you want to.

The point is, things change. Do you deny that? Until BF3 is both on Steam and requires Origin it can't be a set in stone fact.

and your memory deceives you. The announcement that Origin would be a requirement came after the announcement that BF3 would not be on Steam.

If we do end up getting BF3 on Steam that in its self would be a "set in stone fact" that has changed.

well i guess one way to determine fact from fiction, does the DirectDownload verison of BF3 require Origin? coz its essentially the same thing as Steam.

Origin is faster than Steam download wise anyway. I was trying to download ME2 on Steam this past weekend and it was going agonizingly slow at 700KB/s. I figured out you can export EA game CD-Keys to Origin even when bought from steam. When I dled ME2 with Origin it instantly maxed out my connection at 3MB/s and that was sustained throughout.

I also like how you don't have to launch origins for standalone (single player) games like ME1 and ME2 whereas Steam is required on ALL games regardless.
