I think the AV40s should be good enough to tell a difference as I can tell a difference between different bit-rates fairly easily.
I have some cheap sony headphones, but a pretty good 5.1 surround sound system. Yamaha RX-V867 receiver, and some Polk audio speakers.

I was tempted to buy this but I managed to hold back. Just ordered 2 Xonar DG. Already have a STX

Oh you know that if you have a decent receiver and are outputting to it via a digital means than the receiver itself would be performing the job of the sound card, the digital to analog conversion or DAC. This would only benefit you if you also had something directly hooked up to the sound card via an analog means, or at least that's my understanding. It might be a good idea to talk to some people who know more on the subject in the sound card section.

Yea, but the output from the sound card is clearer than the onboard audio, thus better sound quality in the end. And I'm getting some sennheisers soon too.

There shouldn't be any 'clarity' difference in the digital optical signal output from either your onboard or the sound card, the calirty comes from how good of a DAC the component doing the conversion has, which in this case would only be your receiver in both situations unless you plug something into the sound card via an analog method. I still might ask if this soundcard would be a worthwhile thing for you in the soundcard section, tell them what your current set up is and ask if the you would see an improvement. Or don't if you don't want to bother, at this price it's not a huge deal either way so it's up to you, I just don't want to have you spend money thinking you will get something that you might not.

I will hear a difference I know that for sure, I have my audio hooked up though a 2.5mm stereo jack to rca atm. Digital has to be better lol.

I currently have an Audigy 4. Is this worth the upgrade?
