x58 or x79, wait? or BUY NOW!? - Page 2

^ Tl;dr for the benches:

2600k is better in gaming [slightly] and single threaded/lightly threaded apps than the 990x. also costs 700 dollars less.....

990x beats it out by a small margin in most/all heavily threaded apps.

IMO the 2600k is far superior value and gives you an upgrade path to ivy bridge. since you seem to be prepared to drop a large wad of cash on this system, however, waiting for x79 may be in your best interest.

Go with the i7-2600k ... maybe different ram ... and you don't need 1500 watt psu..850 watts is all you need for that system.

all this if done properly can save you over $800.

The performance looks solid, I would like to wait for the x79 boards but if they don't ship til late Dec/Jan I'm screwed lol. I need this computer for a company I'm setting up in January. I want to wait though... The 8 core amd caught my eye though, but stability has always been an issue for ati/amd when under serious load.

this is all over with and dealt with, i am pretty sure. havent heard anything about it since the recall. any new board, especially a newer chipset like the z68 will have zero problems.
