Before the likes of Far Cry, DOOM 3, & HL-2.

Star Wars Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast was AMAZING.

Mmm~ all these titles make me nostalgic as hell.

Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy were really cool.

You also had titles like Freespace.

Wolfenstein
Doom/2
Decent
Quake
Quake 2
Dark Forces 2:Jedi-Knight
Half-life (My mind was blown, and this was the same year that Ocarina of time and the original Metal Gear stole all my time)
Unreal
UT/Quake 3 (came out with in months of each other, but quake 3 was the best looking)
Max Payne (The sharpness of that games textures took my breath away when I first saw it)
RTCW
UT2003
Ut2004.

This would be the list I would submit for best looking, hardware taxing game of the moment. Wolf and Doom were mostly easy to run, but starting with the original Quake, suddenly upgrading your hardware once a year or more to play the latest game became the norm. I'd say Quake was the original pc killer, but it wasn't THAT bad. Half-life and Quake 3 were both kind of like Crysis in there time, especially Quake 3.

I've been here since doom 2, so that would be my list anyways, but I think it's historically accurate, though I am sure I am missing a few. ID and Epic dominated the list as you can see.
