GT240 Flickering in dx9 and beta driver bsod on boot

Hi all

Got a Geforce GT240 DDR5 512Meg. I picked it up second hand at the weekend so the card itself could be faulty or something, not sure yet.

My issues is, prior to installing this card, I could boot all my games with my old 7900gs, they didn't run anywhere near as good as with the GT240, but they all worked.

Now with the GT240, Deus Ex, Dirt 3 and F1 2010 (Strangely not F1 2011, I think this one is running in DX10 whereas 2010 running in DX9 and thats when I believe it happens, in DX9 mode).
The issues is the games flicker like crazy upon boot, you can make stuff out at first, about 5 seconds and the screen garbles, the colours are there, but there is random characters around the screen overlaying in white and random garbling going on. Nothing can be made out, games are completely unbootable.

Yet every other game I have tried works absoloutly fine. Lts of current games in there, dead island, anomaly, alice madness returns, bastion, cod mw2 (although that did display similar things although on random textures when on highest anti aliasing settings if I remember right, turned settings down and it was fine).

Have managed to get through the menus and adjust all settings to minimum in deus ex, no aa, no af, no ao and still it remains screwed.
Also game is fully upto date with latest patch.

My drivers are currently 280.26. I tried installing the new 285.38 & 285.27 drivers however I got a BSOD on reboot after installing with that regarding nvlddmkm.sys so had to go back to 280.26.

Even tried fresh installs of the game and an entire fresh install of win7 x64. Currently in win7 x86.

PC is a
Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4
3GB Ram (although this video card has taken that down to 2.75 usable)

Is it the card itself or a driver issue or something?

Oh and lastly forgot to mention, it also screws up in resident evil 5 in directx 9 mode in the exact same way, however direct x 10 mode works fine. So it seems its just in DX9 mode, deus ex and dirt 3 and f1 all those are running in DX9 mode. And I have tried reinstalling dx9.
