Reason he's letting me use it is because I will be overclocking it for him. So really whatever the highest clock I can get stable at stock voltage. (he uses stock cooling still)

Ok, for sure you'll be able to get one done in that time...of course, it depends on you having a stable overclock. You could use up all the time folding and losing some wus (though it's a great check for stable overclock). I know I've lost my share while working on that perfect OC. With stock cooling, he's probably only going to get to what, low to mid 3 Ghz if lucky? Good luck!
post #13 of 17
Cheers! Yeah He's only looking for around the mid 3Ghz range. Until I persuade him to get a better cooler, then I'm taking that baby to 4Ghz+

Is the tweak for getting VMPlayer 3.0.0 to see 8 cores listed around here somewhere? I ultimately did find it, but it took some Googling and sifting to ultimately locate.

Just add numvcpus = "8" to the end of the .vmx file.

LOL, yeah, it took quite a bit to find that. I wasn't quite sure if there was some issue with posting the info here, or perhaps I'm realizing that it seems so trivial that no one may have recorded it in an easily found way.

In any event, the recipe that I used was this:
  1. Edit the VMX file
  2. Change the numvcpus line from 4 to 8.
  3. Add the following lines at the end of the file:
priority.ungrabbed = "idle"
priority.grabbed = "idle"
processor0.use = "TRUE"
processor1.use = "TRUE"
processor2.use = "TRUE"
processor3.use = "TRUE"
processor4.use = "TRUE"
processor5.use = "TRUE"
processor6.use = "TRUE"
processor7.use = "TRUE"
