Can't decide if I want to upgrade yet...

So my 1GB 4870, as lovely as it is, has been showing it's age lately. It still plays the games I own fairly well, but I feel like I'm missing out a bit.

My favorite game so far this year is Shogun 2. It's nice to look at on DX10, but those huge battles really start to kick my card in the booty. I really wouldn't mind being able to play this game with DX11 and some smoother gameplay.

I also bought the King Arthur RPG off of Steam that I haven't been able to play much due to not so great framerates. Well, not so much not being able to play, as not wanting to play because of low framerate.

On top of that, the three big games coming out this year seem like they would benefit from a GPU upgrade. Battlefield 3 is discussed to heck and back here so I won't go into that. Batman: Arkham City doesn't look like it will be too graphically demanding, but I've always wanted to buy an nvidia card and replay Arkham Asylum with the dorky Physx effects on just to experience it. Finally, Saints Row the Third. I wasn't able to find much reliable system req info but from what I saw it didn't look too demanding.

So basically, I'm trying to figure out if an upgrade is a good idea at this point in time. I'm looking at the 2GB version of the MSi Twin Frozr II GTX 560 ti, due to it's extra vram, but I've been reading both sides of the whole VRAM thing and it seems totally divided.

I could swing a GTX 570, but the default 1280mb model would be stretching what I feel comfortable spending on a card. While AMD cards are enticing, I've had some obnoxious issues with CCC and over/under scaling, and I'd like to stay away from that if possible.

I would suggest the 2gb 560ti over the 570, almost any 560ti can be overclocked to = a 570. So you might as well save the money imo. Also, if you get a 560ti or 570 used that would be your best bet...maybe even a 480. I got my 560ti used for 160 a month ago, no issues here.

Seems like you decided. You've got games you wanna play/play with higher FPS, so get a new GPU.

If it's worth it or not is up to you. We can't decide that for you.

For the record, I'd go with a GTX 560Ti over the 570. Definitely would be faster but the 560Ti seems to be in the price/performance sweet spot.
2 OP pls nerf

Overclocked to overclocked, an overclocked GTX 570 matches an overclocked GTX 580 closer than an overclocked GTX 560ti can to an overclocked GTX 570. You can also find prices on the GTX 570 that gets close to the price of GTX 560ti's.

At any rate, either cards are good.

No, I agree, no one can make that decision for me! I'm just one of those people who likes to somewhat rationalize big purchases by talking it out with people, and I don't have many friends/family members who understand so I wanted to ask people who "get it."

No worries. Just saying

I'm in the same boat too. I'll probably be getting a GTX 560Ti by the end of the month I hope. 8800GT lasted me since November 2007 volt modded and OCed as high as I can ... but it's time to move on

For sure, people were still buying 8800GTs when I bought my card, major performer, but I can imagine 8800 owners looking to upgrade soon

One of the reasons I was debating a 570 was the fact that it came with Arkham City, where the 560 ti 2gb edition did not (I even called Newegg yesterday morning to confirm that it didn't).

I literally just logged into Newegg to do a little more research, and I notice that my basket had two items in it. I clicked it, and apparently the free Arkham City voucher now applied to the 2gb GTX560 ti model I was looking at. It was like a sign. So I bought it.

Thanks for the encouragement guys
