Will a laptop with a cloned hdd (same model laptop) have any networking issues?

Thread Starter
I have a situation where I have a laptop hooked up to a wireless router and configured to work with a wireless printer which is also attached to that same wireless router.

After getting set up I found out the keyboard is defective and am having it replaced with a new one of the exact same model.

My question is: Will the setup I have still work without any additional configuration if I was to either 1) swap the hard drive from the laptop that is set up already to the new one or 2) clone the defective ones' hard drive and transfer that image to the 2nd one.

The reason I'd like to do it this way is that the person using the setup is completely computer illiterate and I am currently hundreds of miles away so I would ideally just be able to ship the replacement laptop to save me the travel time.

I guess I am wondering if there is any reason that the MAC address of the laptops NICs being different will interfere with the setup with the printer/router? I have a hunch it should just work, but wanted to be sure before I tried this out.

If this does work, is there any reason why swapping the hard drives would be a less preferred solution?

Thanks in advance networking guru's, much appreciated.

Should work just fine - the only issue that come to my mind right off the top would be if the wireless is using mac filtering if thats not enabled you should be able to just plug the drive and go.

No mac filtering, sounds good, I was just looking for a little confirmation I guess since I wasn't 100% sure.

This will work with no issues. The only time you have to change anything is if you are using the same image on multiple machines. You would then need to sysprep the machine before creating the image.

Can also confirm this shouldn't be an issue. I do it all the time with our laptops/netbooks at work.
