Things like this make me wonder why we resorted to currency to make the world go round. Sure, it provides some type of stability to the economy of the world, but is it really the only solution? It seems like money has done more bad than good. In some ways it stifles innovation, in others it creates a breeding ground for crime...

Europe is in no fiscal/financial shape to lead such missions. They should worry about the rapidly collapsing Euro and the Eurozone debt crisis rather than some obscure Sun missions. Is it not obvious or is it only obvious to Europe when their own 'house' goes on fire then they will understand.

You need a very high Gauss field magnet to direct radiation away from the probe.

I think 'daring' overstates things. I would call it daring if they put a person on board. I wouldn't call spending a billion units of fiat currency very daring.

So we can learn what?

That the sun is:

1. Really Hot
2. A giant ball of gas
3. A giant nuclear fusion reactor

They could learn just as much about the sun by listening to this:
