tried to OC, PC died?

Thread Starter
I got a 1090t BE, I up the multiplier to x20 with fsb 200mhz. I also put the vcore to 1.45v.

OC'd to 4ghz flat.

That's it.

mobo: MSI 970A-G45

psu: corsair TX650.

This PC was built 3 weeks ago.

So I had set the OC settings and ran prime95 for a very short time maybe 5mins, then played battlefield 3. Afterwards I was on desktop and ran prime95 again while browsing the web and the PC just shut off and won't turn back on.

I tried clearing the cmos, but that didn't work.

temps in prime95 was 59c.

Need help or advice.

MSI boards are know to have faulty MOSFETs... I'm not saying that's the problem because I doubt you could blow one in a day, I'm just saying be careful.

Edit: I'm sorry that it was the MOSFETs, that's most unfortunate

Sounds like a psu failure. If not, then maybe you killed the mobo just jumping to 4 ghz like that
post #5 of 38
Unplug the power cord from the PSU, push the power button to discharge, remove the battery for a few minutes. Put the battery back in, plug the power cord back in, power on the computer.

They do.

Many MSI boards instantly blow up when you Prime95 your Thuban the first time.

It's either the PSU or the MOSFETs. Check if there are any scorch marks around the VRM area.

4+1 phase VRM and no 140w CPUs listed on the support list...I'm betting the board is shot.

PSU is another, though less likely, possibility.

Didn't work.

Will it still be the power supply even if my graphics card LED indicator is lit? When i press the power button, the front fan led lights up for half a second but no spin.

Oh boy.... this may be the first recorded 970A-G45 failure. I knew that this would happen, since although this is a newer and improved design with a massive heatsink on top, the design is still deriative of older MSI boards with known problems.

The symptoms so far seem to fit.

Unplug the 4-pin/8-pin CPU connector. If everything turns on (won't POST obviously), the CPU VRMs are shot.
