tried to OC, PC died? - Page 3

For the record, what was the CPU cooler you were using?
Although I'm sure with the large VRM heatsink this is not necessarily an issue, it's nice to know. Some investigations looking into the tightness of the VRM heatsink mounting may also be necessary.

^ It's not about the voltage, the problem is that Thuban's draw more current than the VRM's are capable of handling on the last gen 4+1 phase vrm 890 & 790 MSi boards were capable of delivering safely. Apparently, the mosfet's haven't improved/been revised on the newer generation 4+1 MSi boards either.

Ok, so the GIGABYTE GA-990XA-UD3 is a good board to get especially for OCing?

I still plan to OC a bit, so I don't want the same thing to happen to me again.

I also plan to crossfire x2 HD 6990's.

Is the GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD5 much better? the price doesn't really matter, they are close enough in price for me.

The 990XA-UD3 is also a great board with a great VRM system and will handle a 1090T overclock with ease. I would consider it to be more ideal since you plan to CrossfireX 2x 6990s; a 4x PCI-E link will bottleneck one of those. 2x 6990s probably best be paired with an FX processor, which is currently available for retail at one place and soon, all others. The 990FXA-UD5 is definitely a step up, as both links will run 16x-16x at CrossfireX, much better IF you are going to be running extremely high resolutions. Your choice.

Thanks for the great info!

I shall go with the UD5.

I just actually found out that the 990XA-UD3

and at NCIX (NCIX's price is higher). Looks like they received a new shipment.

the UD5 is a crap board (overclocking wise).

Vdroop is completely out of control stupid crazy, also the PCIe slot layout is pretty subpar.

The 990FXA-UD3 is almost the same, but without crazy stupid vdroop.
