GTX 295 crashes all around.

Hey guys, been a while since i last came 'round. This time i've got crashing, artifacting and performance issues.

In Bad Company 2 i can run the game with SLI-enabled or Disabled and get about the same performance, not sure if that is diagnostically relevant. However with SLI enabled (even if i only use 1 card, or 2 gpu's) it will artifact really bad and eventually the driver will crash and the game will white-out.

If i disable SLI and just run 1 gpu on 1 295 i can play it for considerably longer, but it will eventually white-out and driver will crash. If i force it to run in Direct-X 9 it will run stable, with 1 gpu. If i use SLI it will crash.

I tried to also play it with both of my 295's in Quad SLI and it will white-out and crash minutes after beginning.

On to battlefield 3 beta. With this title i have updated the driver to the 285.38 as they suggested, which specifically says it adds SLI support. In dual or quad SLI i am getting 10 frames per second. Yes. Ten. With SLI disabled and just running 1, sometimes when the game launches it is playable , but most of the time it's around 10 as well.

My rig is as shown in my sig. I have the most recent driver. I have tried all the drivers from 2010 and most from 2009 and none of them will run stable in the Battlefield games, Call of Duty games, or Supreme Commander. What in the world?! My rig ran great while i was in Iraq! My Quad-SLI setup slaughtered Crysis with style! What in the world's going on guys? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Have you checked the temp? Sounds like your cards are over heating. Use GPUz to check on ur video card temps.

You dont see much difference between SLI and non-SLI in BC2 because your CPU is a huge bottleneck for your video card. I used to have a 295GTX and a Q6600 @ 3.6 and I still got a huge FPS increase when I upgraded to a 2500K. There is really no point in using 2 x 295GTXs at all with your current CPU.

295GTXs run hot and are hard to clean. Ive taken apart laptops that were less work than taking apart and cleaing a 295GTX so just be careful.

I'd say either the GTX 295 is overheating or it's going bad.

Is it still under warranty?

They run respectively at 54, 55, 64 and 65 when under load.

I wouldn't think it was a CPU bottleneck because this phenomenon didn't occur when using SLI in other games like Crysis.

My clan-mates have suggested it may be PSU related. Maybe they're not getting enough juice from my 850w?

Most people would say a good quality 850 PSU would be enough however since its not overheating I'd say the PSU is a good bet. 295s are suuper power hungry and 850 is kinda pushing it even with a good quality unit.

However i would think u would only get issues in quad SLI if its a PSU isssue.

And Im sure bottlenecking would not cause the erroes but your cards are still heavily bottlenecked. Your CPU would bottleneck 1 295 so haveing 2 of them is going to be a huge bottleneck,

I doubt its bottle neck and temps seem fine. I vote that a card is dying, or the PSU maybe isn't pumping out the juice....but on second thought when mine doesn't put out enough juice my pc just turns off. LOL. That was only when running a physX card though. 850 is cutting it close though for 2 295's...They are like 300watts each at full load. My 750 won't run 2. Thats for sure. I tried. LOL So if my 750 can't yours is only 100watts...more...not a lot of head room...

Thanks for the input guys. In the future i plan to get the bulldozer on release and with that a 1200 watt PSU and see how that goes.

For the time being, i pulled out one of the cards and reverted back to Vista 64. So far it is stable playing killing floor for multiple hours at a time, so i'll manage in the time being.
