Some of them can be unlocked to 470s, which is probably the main reason people buy them.

In terms of performance, if you don't plan on trying to unlock it, the 465 tends to be equaled or surpassed by the 460, even (and especially) when both are overclocked.

This is just from what I seem to remember reading around the forums, so forgive me if this info's a little off-base

I've read thre same thing. The 460 is as good or better and cooler and uses less power.

Hi,
This is old but I thought it might be interesting to you: Guru 3d gtx465 review
I hope this helps. Bye.

Edit:skinny and jbjmed is right. Check this comparison. You will see Gtx 460 is better in FPS.

How 'good' a 465 is depends mostly on price, and if it unlocks to 470.

460 is generally a faster card at stock (due to a significant clock speed advantage), w/both at max OC's they end up very close to even. However the 465 sucks up more juice, and runs hotter and louder when you OC it vs. a 460.

Basically I consider a 460 to be worth about $30 more than a 465 due to it's power usage profile and the associated benefits thereof. Any more than $30 difference, I think the 465 becomes the better 'deal'. One thing that's nice about the 465 is that it does have more tessellation power, so on DX11 tests w/heavy tess, they are about = to a 460 w/both cards at stock clocks.

Many PNY 465's do unlock though, and if you get one that does, esp. if it's at a good price ... they can end up being an AMAZING deal.

In the higher-end segment PNY sells exclusively reference cards (that I've ever seen) which means they're all made to exact nVidia specs in the same chinese factories that provide the reference cards sold by evga, zotac, msi, gigabyte, asus, palit, and all the rest of the nV brands (to be clear, some of whom also make non-reference editions of various cards).

There's nothing wrong w/PNY cards. They're nothing special (cause they're the same physical cards as lots of other brands sell), but they're not 'crap' either.
