Asus DX 7.1 an upgrade over realtek 889?

Thread Starter

Hey guys I wanted to make sure that this

would be a worthwhile upgrade over the realtek 889 onboard in my Asus P67 WS Revo. I use M-Audio AV40s and I do enjoy high quality sound in my movies (blu-ray), music, and games, probably in that order all though all are important to me. I think it would be a decent upgrade for me but just wanted to be sure before ordering, and to also give people more informed than myself to let me know if this is a sound card to avoid for any reason. Thanks everyone

Heck yes. Those DX cards are amazing, especially over then 889 onboard.

Thanks, that's what I figured. They are moving pretty fast so I just ordered and will just return if I hear it's terrible or don't like it for myself.

The reviews I've been reading about ASUS soundcards is that the drivers are terrible? Is there any truth to that? Any DX 7.1 owners here to verify that claim? I'm looking to get one of these cards myself.

I owned the DX, and the drivers were great, never had a single problem. There are much more complaints about the lower level creative cards, as their drivers were not made for win 7, unlike the DX's.

I think the DX would be a great choice for you, ASUS cards offer the best price/performance in terms of pure musical quality, whereas creative's selling point is the software that positions sounds more accurately. However, since you are using speakers, the whole point of positioning is pretty moot.

I'd say go for it.

Same here - drivers are fine; if you have some problem with them (as far as UI, etc), you can use the UNi drivers (I do because I think the interface is cleaner and they're updated more often).

Thanks! Will definitely give UNi drivers a look. I love Uni (sushi) btw.

Virtual simulated sound by Creative are gimmicks.

Thanks guys, gonna pull the trigger once they're in stock again on Newegg. Rep+
