Boxed has always been more expensive than tray, so I dont get why so surprised?

Math? The boxed is listed @ $121 and the tray @ $189.

Hence the surprise....

Edit to add: I see you are in Germany. Perhaps something was missed in translation?

I am not sure where you shop, but I am certain that places like Newegg sell bare CPUs for less than the retail boxed conterparts. The lack of packaging - and usually lack of a heatsink as well, makes them cheaper. Thats the whole idea of buying "bulk" or "tray" AFAIK.

I know it doesnt make sense, but here in europe the tray versions are actually more expensive than boxed, check the links I posted above of the 2600k.

Another example for AMD http://gh.de/?cat=cpuamdam3&asd=on&asuch=1100t
http://gh.de/?cat=cpu1155&asd=on&asuch=2500k
etc.

Those are just random ones I picked, its not like they're an exception.
Here in europe boxed is always cheaper by around 20€ (which is almost 30 USD) eventhough it really should be the other way around.

Looks like some awesome packaging! Will definitely look good on the store shelves!

I really hate AMD Stock heatsinks, the one I got with my 965 could barely keep the temps below 60C under load, and it was really loud too /end rant

I really like the packaging on that, especially what it looks like it's made out of metal (Like a tin can )

Really can't wait to get my hands on one of these bad boys
