Also another good thing, from what I read a while back. If youve already purchased FFXIV from its previous release, you wont have to buy the game again. Youll get access to A Realm Reborn but you will only have to set up a monthly sub. So you wont have to spend as much money again if you want to check it out.
Plus I'm not sure if there is going to be an open beta, but if there is you'll be able to check it out then.

Nicely said. If the people that were disappointed at FFXIV 1.0's initial release, played at all later, after Yoshi-P took over, there would be no arguement.
To sum it up, he took a broken Engine/Game to try to make the best of it until version 2 was released. Now people are angry because of how much they loved what became of Version 1, and how different Version 2 looks in the gameplay videos.

So you could only imagine what he can create from a game built from the ground up.
There will be an open Beta (people without exisiting supscriptions will be able to apply)
But it will still be a lottery system.

THAT is what i was waiting to hear biggrin.gif THANKS. I know no dates are hard set yet, but i'd imagine late Jan/early Feb based on current progress. Anyone IN the alpha care to chime in? Things sound like they're going swimmingly, but i also wouldn't imagine them wanting to rush it after v1.0 crashed and burned lol. I'm hopeful for Jan/Feb though.

I have been searching online and i am a bit confused - can someone explain the Armory system and Job system to me?
From what i gather you select a discipline and then can select job from that discipline. Seems like they havent shown all the armory system options as 2 are set as "coming soon" and there are more War disciplines then Magic ones. I do hope they add more magic options as i will be picking a caster as my player if i get the game.

Not sure if this question will be allowed to be answered however i will ask it anyway ( redface.gif ) :

How does the job/class system compare to other games? Like is it more like WoW which is pretty limiting or is it more like Rift whose talent/class system i think is AMAZING allowing so much customizability. From what it seems is that you pick a Discipline for example Magic. From there you pick a class(?) for example i would likely pick Thaumaturge simply coz of the name (lol) and from there pick a job9(?) from here would i be limited into what job i could pick?

Or could i say pick a Warrior for example and have a mix of Mage abilities as well as Warrior skills? An Archer firing magic arrows would be SICK!

You will not be limited to the starting class you pick. Look up the ffxi job system it is very similar.

"starting class" - would that be from the Discipline thing? such as Gladiator, Lancer, Conjurer and Arcanist?

If thats the case, Does that mean you can mix and match the Discipline and Jobs? or simply that you can switch between them? is that out of combat or can that be done in combat as well? The main place i look at information on the game is the games website (www.finalfantasyxiv.com) is there any other sites that might have more in depth information?

That's what i'd heard, but i wanted to let someone else respond who would be more knowledgable. I like that job system as it rewards merit and allows flexibility, but sometimes I heard people complain it was 'too' open and removed some of the connection people felt to a character. Those were usually people coming from WoW, like myself, though who were used to having two options. Character class, and the 2 specs you could switch between within that class biggrin.gif

I'm sure it's a great system though and am excited to give it a try in action. They wouldn't keep it if it wasn't a sound system, with all the other changes they're making.

In Version 1, you had 7 base classes. (5 Melee and 2 Magic)

You could change to any class you wanted simply by equipping a new weapon. (lancer used a spear, warrior used an axe etc)
As a Class, you could use any of the cross class skills that you had unlocked. (Warrior can use Cure(heal) if you unlocked it by leveling Conjurer)

Within the Class system there was also the "Job" system that needed to be unlocked, which gave you specialized skills, made you more powerful, but limited the cross class skills you could use.
(i.e. Archer becomes Bard. As a Bard you can only use cross classed skills that you have unlocked on Thaumaturge and Conjurer)

Jobs are more powerful, but lose out on the versatility of using many cross class skills.
Then there are all the Crafting Classes and Gathering Classes....

im in the alpha ... and let me tell ya .... the game runs WAAAAY smoother

now the quest system is like FFXI , and i hope it stays that way

now ... if they could fix that damn jumping animation wile running ... i hate it when u land , the character wont do some "landing speed" steps . it just hops and put both feet on the ground , half a second of pulling the body straight without moving your legs .... its like its gliding without moving the legs for a second ...

i hate that ...

We have very similar systems. How does the game run for you? Do you think you are going to upgrade anything before release?
