One thing that I haven't been able to find a ton of info on, is specifics on the depth of the crafting system. What I mean by that, is the amount of time/gil it will take to max a craft. I hope it will be similar to FFXI, in that to get a craft to max, it is a major accomplishment. I really hope it's not like WOW, where you can max a craft in a day if you know what you are doing.

Has anyone seen specific info on this anywhere? I didn't play FFXIV after the beta, so I'm not sure exactly how it was there, or if there will be much change from how it was there in ARR.

If it is anything like the original release. It is no different than a d.o.w. class. You could start a character, and only do craft/gather and have every bit as fulfilling an experience as you would doing a d.o.w class.

It was kind of like this. For each job, there were matching jobs. If you were culinary. You were also a fisher, which means that you could also be a woodworker (make your own poles), which also meant it would be helpful to be a weaver (to make parts for lures), which mean it was good for you also to gather, and chop your own wood (which goes back to being a fisher). You also could make your own cooking tools, which would mean you could also be a miner, and a metalsmith, and a armorer which you would need both to smelt and then refine your ores to make your cooking tools. Leading back to carpenters, for your handles, and leatherwork for your sewings supplies.

Any one job that you took for d.o.h jobs, also mean it would benefit from other d.o.h jobs.

So, no, in my experience, my highest crafting class was 32, and would say for every hour spent on a d.o.w. job, it would take 3 hours for a d.o.h job to gain as much experience.

Grinding aside, this is just local, and regional(I cannot remember the exact names of the other set of leves atm) leves I am talking about.

You sound like you never played the first, at all. Which means you have no idea, at all, that the first game was disappointing or not. There were plenty of people, including on this forum, that thought the first was great. Its only because people like you, who never actually played the game, that perpetuated that rumor, and continue to perpetuate the rumor that it was terrible, that the game still has a bad rap. If you never actually played it, you'd do the entire OCN community a service to not give an opinion on it.

I'd neg prop you if I could, thankfully this forum doesn't have this feature.

While I appreciate your useful feedback early on in your post, I really don't get where all that hostility at the end came from.

I played the game in the beta, it had a lot of problems, as most people were and are aware. I watched a friend play the game after the retail release, and even screwed around on his character myself, and I noticed that many of the same problems were still present. The single largest problem, for me, was the UI, and the delay involved after making any selection. This was still an issue at release (and note that I said the original release was a disappointment, I realize they made great strides in improving many of the game's shortcomings through patches).

My intent in posting about how I was excited about ARR was only that: to express that I was looking forward to ARR, and to suggest to the OP that it might be a game worth his attention. I really don't know why you seem to take it so personally that I, and perhaps some others, thought the original FFXIV was flawed. Nothing I posted was even inflammatory in my opinion, it's honestly baffling to me that you got so up in arms about anything I said.

I wish nothing but success for ARR. I was a long time player of FFXI, and when FFXIV originally came out, I was hoping it could be something I could move over to and enjoy playing. For me, it wasn't enjoyable. If it was enjoyable for you, fantastic, tell people about that. If other people have an opinion that differs from yours, the world will not end, believe it or not.

EDIT: I'm also going to add that I had heard the devs were trying very hard to improve the game, and I was actually looking into giving it another shot. This was right when they were pulling copies off shelves in preparation for the change over to ARR. Since then I've been keeping up with news on the game, and actually can't wait for ARR, all indicators point to it being a fantastic game.

.

i did played since the beginning , and the alpha back in december , and i prefer the new FFXIV than the old...

the old was slower and lagg-ish , specially when u take out a weapon , you can count the seconds for the animation to start ... in fact , in everything , it lags lol , and when you run and pull out a weapon , that gliding .... i hate it ...

it was a sluggish in the end ... and you know it ...

I have nothing against people opinion of the game, that actually played the game. I've pretty much kept my mouth shut the majority of this thread, for a specific reason. I personally enjoyed the game, and had no experience with mmo's previous, therefore, not a single thing was wrong with the game as it was when launch. I had to learn of the issue, as I encountered them.

That being said.

mgaggy, you gave an opinion about something you know nothing about, and were called on it. Nothing more, nothing less. I didn't take it personally and really, couldn't care less about it. However, this is the internet, and this forum specifically has a t.o.s. It expects proper etiquette, and when saying something, generally should back it back it up. At the least, you could have said you heard. Which you did not. In your own action, is the exact reason why you said what you said in the first place. Someone, heard or told someone, and so forth.

As for the comments about the issues. Yes, they were there, I am fully aware. I also remember the issues with tera, having pathetic cartoon graphics, giant textures, terrible AA, and about a half second lag after using a command. I remember perfect world being almost unplayable when entering any populated areas. Every game is with flaw. FFXIV was not the only one. They were in the works of fixing them, did fix many. I too am hoping for a great launch.

But Im not about to tell everyone about how much I hate wow, its a terrible community, and the graphics look like they are from 04' when I've never even played the game.
