Funny thing is NVidia's chart had nothing to do with visuals. It was a simple claim that a GTX 580 is about 9 times more powerful than what is in a console. The guy at Crytek is the one who went off about comparing power to visuals.

The two bolded parts should never be in the same sentence without a negative. I think my friend's 6950's that run the game at over 60fps and didn't even hit full 3D clocks (they were at the second stage in clock speed, i forget what these numbers are) after pushing the game as high as it would go graphically will feel greatly insulted by calling Rage something that "pushes PC tech".

Anywhozen, he does have a point that raw power != visual fidelity. At the same settings, increase in raw power will more accurately translate to increase in framerates as the visual fidelity is limited by what the developer made. It will be pretty dumb for someone to expect a games low-res textures to magically become HD because they decided to Tri-SLI GTX580's...
As mentioned by others, the raw power boosts more of the finer details of the game.

He directly contradicts his earlier statements with this last sentence.

It's obvious he's just trying to defend his company's decision to take crysis to consoles. Crysis 2 should have been a giant leap forward in graphics technology. Instead, it didn't even measure up to Crysis Warhead.

Another thing to keep in mind; 9x more processing power may only increase visual fidelity by 50% in Crysis 2, because the entire engine was designed to run on a console, whereas Crysis 1 was designed to run on a PC only. The engine is just as important as the raw processing power when making these comparisons.
i think he wanted to say that a lot of processing power is spent on details that are not very noticeable

*EDIT*: I, for one, notice them easily. My eyes bleed when i see console games lol

Sadly, taking half the power of the GTX580 and shoving it into the console would yield the consoles either matching or outperforming current gen hardware.

Consoles have much better efficiency in anything rendering then dedicated PCs. I have no idea why the driver teams have not addressed this issue successfully. At the current generation of graphics levels, our cards should be yielding over 100 fps constant when compared to the efficiencies of the consoles...however, this is so far not the case. Ugh.

Just going from 720p to 1080p is 2.25x the number of pixels calculated per frame...
I did think Crysis 2 was good... not great or amazing, but good. However, I feel in response to this statement I would have to say:

"Says the guy who's engine tessellates water underneath the whole map even on an all-land level."

Besides, I'm sure most people here can easily tell the difference between a game on a console and the same game maxed on PC, and I'm sure it's more than two times better.
