[Toms] Apple's Siri - Page 11

If it actually is as fluid and works exactly like that commercial then simply amazing, great benefits for people with disabilities. However, I see a downside, my privacy.
Of course there will be the option to not use it, but say if you were using it but then forgot to turn it off and you happened to be with friends or other people, say in a meeting, it is just going to automatically tell everyone what someone said to you. I mean, imagine getting a text from your girlfriend, wife, boyfriend, husband etc with some sexual context.
Phone: "New notification from Sarah 'Hey Mr.Big, I'm so ready for you tonight'". Talk about embarrassing.

I don't believe it automatically reads it aloud, you've got to ask. It's at least an option. It's the consumers fault if they do that around people.

From what I remember watching the video, the phone buzzed and immediately began to read out the text. I'll have another look.

Edit* At the beginning of the video the phone is asked to read the message, however at 1minute, the phone buzzes with a notification and begins to read the message without user asking.

Who cares who's done "more?" I care about who's done A LOT. Just because Apple has done a fraction more for the tech market than Microsoft, doesn't make them any better in my eyes. What have they given us in the last decade? The iPod was awesome. Everything that came after that? Hipster trash.

Apple acts like they're sent from God himself as a gift to mankind. Apple is 95% marketing and 5% product.

Apple has enormous power over their consumers, and yet they only focus on increasing profit margins. The technology they could invest in, in order to help and further the human race is out there. Instead they push crap like Siri on the people and act like it's worth the $500 price tag.

Thank you for you're refreshing lack of cognitive bias. I have PC's too. And an Android phone.

Yeah, it does ask. They probably edited out the part where Siri was asked to read it aloud. That, or it's a setting.

Google is pushing voice search on mobile devices as well, but its voice search just creates a regular search query. Siri does not perform a general Web search. It tries to understand the user’s intent using natural language processing and semantic systems (are you looking for a flight, a concert, a taxi, a business) and then plugs the search into the relevant Web services. It supports more than 40 services right now, but it is designed to support hundreds or thousands. There were also plans to open up an API to developers so that Siri could more easily ingest this type of data.

Looks epic, can't wait to see what the iPhone 5 has to offer. Step by step this awesome little device tears it up.
