Front Side Bus overclocking.

Thread Starter
Hi people.

I'm getting my first real overclock going on this machine.
Now, the FSB stock clock is 200 MHz of course. But is there any real reason for overclocking it? Does it really matter compared to NB and CPU overclocking?

It used to matter for AMD chips back in 199s as from 2003 AMD uses HTT in stead of FSB, which is much faster. As such there is no advantage in taking it higher than 200 if you have a BE processor. On non-BE upping the HTT is the only way to OC, but you don't need to do it.

FSB overclocking (FSB is called HTT on AMD platforms) will overclock everything -- HT Link speed and your memory frequency as well the CPU and NB. I always overclock with FSB because it's more of a challenge, the end result is usually better since everything gets tweaked and not just your CPU, and because I come from another era (look at join date ) where FSB overclocking was really the only way to do it.

You'll have to keep all the frequencies in check, though, so drop the multis as you see fit and only overclock one component at a time so you know what's causing stability issues.

You will gain some advantage from upping the FSB but overall its not really needed with BE chips,

FSB clocking will increase the CPU clock ratio and also increase the Memory clock aswell,
