Will I need a more powerful PSU?

Thread Starter
I've picked my new parts for my upgrade and I'm going to get these:

Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M LX

RAM: Corsair 2GB DDR3 1333MHz (Unbuffered) x2

GPU/CARD: Zotac GTS 450 512MB DDR5 810/3608 PCI-E Graphics Card

The problem is now, that the GPU I'm getting needs a minimum of 400W peak PSU output, my PSU is a 450W CiT (and as everyone knows CiT is sh**)

My PSU is this: http://www.overclock.co.uk/product/C...tail_6609.html

Will I need to upgrade my PSU in order to use a GTS450 without blowing my build?
Getting there.

If you don't plan on overclocking, you should be ok with that PSU. Although yes, I'd agree with compuman below. LOL

Well,

It's hard, those PSU's are probably rated higher than they can output tbh. I would have to say it's a risk. But tbh, you could get a reasonable PSU for about £40. Have a look at the corsair CX 500

But this is the rest of my money, it's coming to £150, My PSU does have a 6pin PCI-e connector. So I won't have to worry about that.

I'm not going to overclock, My birthday is soon, but I want to really get a monitor instead of a new PSU.

My current PSU is about 3 months old. Will it hold up to the GTS450?

Is there any tests I can do to check if it will work with the GTS450, I have a multimeter.
Getting there.

My PSU says 12v1 = 10A and 12v2 = 13A

So is that an amperage of 23Amp's, so 12v x 23A = 276W?

I'm confused anyway will this PSU run a GTS450 stock? or will I have to get a GT 440?
Or maybe there is a lower power GTS450?

I'm sorry for the excessive posts, but I really need to know if I can run a GTS 450 on this PSU.

No..... You need to find the primary 12V output.

Think of it like this:
You have a big pipe capable of 18L/min. You hook up a 10L/min and a 13L/min pipe. Are you capable of drawing 23L/min? No, the primary is what matters.

Cheap companies love to do this to confuse consumers. There are PSUs out there with 2+ 12v@18A lines but only capable of 20-30A.

This thing is an ATX 2.2 unit.... that spec is from March 2005. I bet you actually have a 250-300w PSU... if that.

If it's really a "crap cit 450w" than you probably want to upgrade. You can probably do fine with a 450-550w, but not a bad brand. If you picked up a seasonic or a good corsair or something you wouldn't have any issues.
