550W on 5770 Crossfire build?

Thread Starter
Pretty silly question, maybe, but wanted some thoughts anyways!

My build is in my signature, and I've been wanting to add another 5770 for a crossfire setup. However, my power supply only supplies 550W, which for the vast majority of sane, rational people, is not enough. But can it be done?

Power breakdown:
CPU ~ 120W (taken for an X4)
GPU x 2 ~ 240W
HDD < 10W
RAM ~ No idea, but it must be small compared to other components.
Board ~ ??
Fans < 15W

As far as I know, the CPU and GPU(s), the processing units, account for the bulk of the power requirements. At stock, we're talking a system total of 385W with crossfire. That said, is there really a need for me to upgrade to a more pwoerful power supply at the moment?

I did read in the reviews for my power supply of people successfully running Crossfire on some more power-hungry GPUs...

The wattage of the power supply is not as important as the current capability of the 12 volt rail. For a crossfire rig you probably want a PSU with at least 50 Amps for the 12v rail which would usually be about 600-650w model. Corsair PSUs are usually highly biased toward the 12v side, but there are plenty of other good PSUs.

No need to upgrade, your current psu is enough.

A good 550W should be good enough for two 5770's.

Great! Thanks for all the feedback.

EDIT: I'm retarded. Power supply might be fine, but my mobo sure isn't! Only got one PCI-E x16 slot on this board!
