NZXT Tempest - Case Mod Advice

Thread Starter
I'll be running SLI GTX 460's in my sandy bridge setup but before I get everything installed I'd like to do a few quick case mods. I won't be doing any painting at the moment as I'm just concerned with air flow (and some cable management).

Here's what I'm working with:

There are two 140mm fans on the top for exhaust, two 120mm stacked in front of the hdd cages for intake, another 120mm fan in the rear for exhaust, and a 120mm fan on the side panel for intake.

Is this fan arrangement optimal?
Should I cut out out the checkered grill pattern on the case where the rear exhaust fan is located?
Is my PSU fan pointing up at the GPU's going to be a hindrance?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Will rep any helpful suggestions!

Yeah, that fan setup is fine.

PSU fan sucks in, doesn't blow out into the case, that would be stupid. It exhausts out the back through the mesh at the back where the power switch is. It helps the GPU cooling other than hindering it, making sure it gets exhausted through the PSU casing and out the back of the case.

The Tempest is a really good case and you don't have anything to worry about with its cooling.

Hope that helps smile.gif

I have better temps with the top fans blowing air into my case rather than out, and I have my psu the other way around, but it shouldn't matter it sucks air in and puts it out the back anyways, it doesn't really heat anything up.

If you want, if you get a custom fan grill i think it would look pretty nice too. Also, you should get a fan controller. It will allow you to keep the rpm's down at idle and when you game you can just turn them up.

Also, you can look into sleeving your psu cables for looks and cutting the extra connections on it you don't need to help save space.

I can't really think of anything else besides getting ccfl's and paint. wink.gif
