The hardware refresh was as good as could be expected (besides perhaps not more RAM) and the software is a HUGE update. Also, a big push of Apple right now is the foreign markets. They're doing just fine locally.
I agree, the software is going to be big. Oh, and it's not improbable that we'll see 1GB of RAM, but we'll have to wait for the iFixIt tear-down.

Well, let's see... it's got 1080p video and a brilliant camera, it's got a dual-core CPU which is up to 2x faster and a dual-core GPU which is up to 7x faster, you've got dual antennas and Siri. It's got massive improvements.
