[GetAndroidStuff] Apple follows Android, Bringing similar Notification Bar to iOS 5 - Page 9

Apple has been behind for a long time. Apple didn't invent smartphones, touch screen phones (palm trio), was late to 3G.

Apple still will not go 4G (no WiMax or LTE, but they will use HSPA+ for lucky AT&T users). Late to multi tasking etc... They do it the apple way.

The Android notification bar is a useful tool to have, and I'm happy that Apple is using it. For Apple not to use it just because they might be "copying" Google, as some of you have said, is absurd.

I'm sick of all the "copying" name calling in technology. You know sometimes, you have to keep up with the Jones'

Why can't you take an idea from something, as you put it "pseudo-open sourced"? If I suddenly developed my own mobile operating system that used a pull-down notification system then of course I would have been taking the idea from Android. Just because it's open-sourced does not mean it didn't exist in the first place. It does exist and the pull-down notification has been taken, stolen, borrowed, used however you want to word it, from Android.

I don't speak for everyone but what I am saying is that I think it's slightly hypocritical of Apple to get so upset with Samsung over copying designs and then turn around and use a pull-down notification system, something a lot of consumers recognize as Android.
I think suing over things such as "slide to unlock" is too much, but in terms of Samsung copying some of Apple's UI with TouchWiz I do agree. What Apple has copied is a feature, which can have a distinctly different UI than how Android implements it. (Whether it does or not, I don't know.)

Anyone got a picture of a notification bar on Android? I'd like to see the differences.

Apple's claiming it has download speeds equal to that of it's competitors claiming 4G (14.4Mbps down). So, what's the difference?

I agree that you should be allowed to copy good (UI) idea's and implement them in your own way, although I don't think blatant or identical copies should be allowed.

I do realise that it is a feature Vs. UI and don't disagree with you at all, but as I have said before I just find it all a little bit hypcritical of them to be after other companies so hard and then come out with this.

Here's a couple of screenshots for you. Had to flesh it out with a few notifications for you because I didn't have any!

*NOTE that this is my Android phone setup to be how I want it and not a representation of every other device out there as they are all unique in their own way!

Mmm, I see. I can see similarities but I do think what Apple has done is different enough. Either way, I wish lawsuits about "features" would stop, period. They certainly can't be helping progression.

Sue others for "copying" something as simplistically trivial as the way the pictures move if not swiped long enough, then expect a larger feature like the notification bar to go unnoticed? Sickening.

I don't know where you've been for the past year but iOS notifications has been on the iPhone for years. Apple just decided to hire the developer of this method recently to make it built into the OS by default.
