Looking at a 6950 to unlock. Lack of HDMI = 3D issues?

Thread Starter
While I am waiting on my RMA for my GTX 460 Hawk to come back from MSI, I am getting a bit impatient with Rage being out so...

Im thinking about the upgrade to the ASUS EAH6950 DCII/2DI4S/2GD5. I have read success posts on here about unlocking it, and it looks to OC like a beasty so yeah. That aside is there any other 6950 that I should be looking at (saphire dirt 3 and toxic look to be oos at the moment)

Only issue is that it will be pushing to my 73738 for my gaming/ 3d movies off my bluray drive. I am not sure how display port (to hdmi) or dvi (to hdmi) will push the 3d signal if at all (and my not quite 7tb of drive space is pretty full so rips wont be an option) Does anyone know how protected BD push through this tech?

Also though I am excited about being back on a Asus card (not sure i liked my MSI as it first came DOA then after 10 months one of my fans goes out) this would also my first non Nvidia card so hows the drivers etc. on the dark side?

Hey Jesse D,

The easiest thing to do ... Go to my user profile link and then search posts I've made in the last couple weeks ... I've made so many about HD6950's & UnLocking ... it's easier to tell you to do that, than to list it all here smile.gif

GOOD LUCK fellow GENE-Z owner biggrin.gif

If the proctected content can play thru the native DP or DVI, it doesn't matter what adapter types you will use, DP-HDMI or DVI-HDMI, just make sure to get the right one from AMD Validated Dongles http://support.amd.com/us/eyefinity/Pages/eyefinity-dongles.aspx

Your posts have been mostly the ones I have been through so far (and your posts in the M4GZ thread are what made me consider the 6950:thinking:)

Don't know if this will change your mind but Tiger Direct appears to have both Dirt 3 edition AND toxic in stock. The toxics just came in today. There is also a deal on the Dirt 3 Edition that comes with 2 bonus games on top of the dirt 3 that already comes with it.

Blueray is compatible with DVI-D (Digital) Dual Link. I am not sure if it is supported using DP as their have different electrical signal though both DVI and DP are carrying digital signal.

Yep ... it's $30 more than I paid for my TOXIC, but with ZERO chance of it NOT Un-Locking to a full HD6970 wink.gif so I'd say it's a wash ... you'll LOVE that card ! thumb.gif
