i5 2500k and ASRock Extreme4 Gen 3 upgrade, no POST

6950 w/ mod
4x 2gb gskill 1600
750w psu
(all of these were functioning ~1 hour before the build)

Mobo has debug leds, and the onboard power on / resets never did anything.
Cpu cooler backplate was touching some pins on the back when I first tried to boot (no debug leds, but power was on [drives and fans]) I cropped the backplate and made sure none of the pins were touching. Was it possible that something fried when the pins were shorted? Was the mobo just DOA? What is the best thing todo from here?

Try to re build it . It happened for me that i set up everything and did not work . after disassembling , and re assembling everything was fine .
remove battery for a couple of minutes . Re connect cables etc ...
if it doesnt work , than the board could be doa .

Is the motherboard mounted in the case?

You might try pulling everything out of the case and setting up on the static bag the board came in. While the outside of the bag is not anti-static, it will work.

Plug in only the essentials (CPU, ram, video card and the relevant power connections) and see if it boots.

If you still have nothing... one of those components is probably bad.

If you boot... you were shorting out in the case. Check your standoffs, backplate, etc.
