Plugged in my new MSI 6950 TFIII and boot to black.

Thread Starter
Just plugged in my brand new MSI 6950 TFIII to my mobo and can't get a signal on boot. Card powers up fine, fans blastin' etc. Can't even see to get into the bios...

Screen is just utter black.

A little history...

My motherboard is a jerk. It has the NVIDIA nForce 750a chipset with I have read doesn't like playing well with ATI cards. Now mind you I have the latest BIOS for my board (ASUS M3N72-D). Before I purchase this card I borrowed my friend's 5770 just to plug it in to test and it worked fine. I DON'T THINK MY CARD IS DOA. I have already disabled all of the BIOS options regarding onboard video/hybrid .

I ran driver sweeper to clean the drivers of the Nvidia chipset before I installed the 6950 btw.....even reinstalled the nforce chipset drivers (after switching in my old GTX 260) STILL can't boot with this card.

Someone please help me. I know it's got to be a setting or a driver ..ANYTHING regarding the nForce 750a Chipset. I just don't think it might be compatible in the end .

I need to know whether I should send this card back to newwegg in exchange for NVIDIA if this stupid MOBO limits me. : /

Thanks in advance,

CCC

Some boards have an option to set display to PCI-E/PCI and if you dont select that your bios you will get a blank screen.

Irrelevant question. Can't boot with it in my mobo.

I have always had it set to PCI-E with my gtx260 up until today and it worked fine. Don't know why it would be any different with the 6950.

BTW mobo has PCI-E 2.0 support, card is PCE-E 2.1. I read earlier this didn't matter : /

I really think it has to do with the nvidia chipset on the mobo conflicting with the ati card. Can I disable the chipset, unistall it from dev manager? something?!

Did you uninstall the nV drivers? It shouldn't matter but you may want to do that. Do you have the gpu plugged into the psu?

I had a very similar problem when i got my 2 x 6950's... set everything up, plugged everything in, turned it on and.......... nothing. Turns out i had to use DVI port 2 on the primary card for any picture at all, since then i have tried HDMI, display ports and the other DVI ports and get no picture at all no idea why or how to fix it so i just left it on the 2nd DVI port lol, maybe try all other connectors?

Try clearing the cmos, not like it SHOULD matter. Worth a shot IMO.

Try to switch to bios no.2 and see if it can boot? If it's fine then go into windows, switch back to bios no.1, use ati winflash to reflash the bios, of course you can use the atiflash directly from boot instead of winflash.

Hope this helps biggrin.gif
