I see said the blind man when he picked up his hammer and saw.

If you can hold out a bit over your budget....

EVGA 025-P3-1579-AR GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) HD 2560MB $394.99 after MIR w/free shipping = $374.99 + Free Batman Arkham game w/ purchase. Game adds $50 value. ($324.99).

Out of stock right now, it goes pretty fast due to the high VRAM but is worth the extra money IMO with higher resolution.

Anyway good luck with your choice.

$300 is already pushing it so I think I'll likely go with the 2gb 560 ti and overclock it.

If you can find a 6970 in your price range that would be the better choice at your res than the 560ti 2GB. The AMD card will have the VRAM you need and will be more powerful than the 560ti to give you a better chance of being able to drive the games you want. Now I'm no fan of AMD's weak tessellation but in this case it seems like a clear win for AMD IMO, especially seeing as I don't believe you will be able to or want to SLI in the future. If the SLI option was on the table then I think a single 560ti 2GB to start would be fine, and then add another later, but if you must stick to a single card then for your res you want it to be the most powerful you can get and in this case that looks like the 6970 to me.

That's nice for you. How does it help the OP? Are you offering to sell him a 580 for that price? Because you don't have the rep required to sell things on OCN.

At his resolution (2560x1440) the OP really needs all the VRAM he can get, so I don't think that the 6870's would be a good idea at all. The 6950 is not a bad idea but they are pretty close to the 560ti in power and I personally prefer the Nvidia so I would go with the 560ti, but I still really think the best possible card for the OP would be a 6970 if he can find one (even used) in his price range.

Apparently these can be had for close to my price range, but length is a big concern as I only have ~10" max (maybe less) in the sg05 I'm set on. Also, I'm not sure if the 05's on-board PSU is enough @ 450w.

The HD 6970 is really the best choice for that resolution and price.

Here's a 6970 for $310 shipped:

You can't jury rig the case?
