Well, then I guess that is what I will do then. And you recommend spending money on a decent sound card as well. Guess thats what I need to start budgeting for.

not even gonna recommend anything cuz the audiophiles will pounce on me and feed on my flesh in a heartbeat.

However, i'd get a good pair to plug into a nice sound card. Hope that was a safe enough recommendation the audiovampires would approve of now im getting TFO fast...

Best of luck to you.

been doing a ton of research on headphones and i will have to agree with the ATH-AD700 coupled with a zalman clip on mic. i actually just placed an order on these myself. the wide soundstage on the ad700s are supposed to be amazing for fps games. but ill find that out for myself when i get them.

Let us know how much you want to spend on the headphones, the microphone, and the sound card all together, and we can pick some things out for you. There are even some very nice options priced lower than the AD700's.

These are very nice headphones, and paired with an XtremeGamer and a Zalman clip on Mic the total becomes around $75. For $75 you are basically getting better sound quality than $250 Turtlebeach/Tritton headsets.

If you want to spend around $150ish, more options start to open up.

The reason I asked was so I could make an educated decision. I have been out of the game for a while, and if I thought the G35' were great, than I can only wonder what this setup will sound like.

Its definitly the way I am leaning towards now.

My budget total is right around $150 I guess. Thel ess the better, BUT, I would rather buy something I am not going to have to run right out to replace.

Comes out to $170, but trust me, you will not regret it. if you want to go under $150, you could swap out the sound card for an XtremeGamer, and you would save $30.

I've been using the tritton pc510 and not impressed. Got a par of turtle beach zx1 for free and gave them away. Im going to spend more on my next setup. Maybe go with shenhiser pc360 but way out of your budget.
