Over clocking questions??? 2.8 to 3.5ghz

Thread Starter
Well I went by a formula someone told me on another forum, they gave me these numbers to apply in the bios for a OC of a AMD Phenom II x4 920 going from 2.8ghz to 3.2ghz

Cpu/Hyperthreading -229
Processor Frequency Multiplier - 14
CPU/NB Frequence - 11 (bios only goes to 9)
HT Link Speed - 1800
Ram -266

Well what I ended up doing was once I added the 212 Plus HSF, I decided to bump it up a little by applying the CPU/HT to a 258.

Well the problem with this is it gave me a blue screen upon loading to the desk top, thought it might of been ram being at 266 so I put it back at auto, still same problem, so I managed to decrease the CPU/HT to 243, thought it was going to blue screen on me again but didnt.

Ran the Prime 95 test for about 6 cycles (8-10 mins maybe less) no errors or anything, temperature was not increasing much, it was around 48-50c in that phase.

Question is why cant the OC go higher by applying a 258? Is this the processors limit or is this a ram issue or something?

Another question is is how do you apply the clock settings into things like all control panel systems under windows where it will display the stock reading as well as display it in the gadget tool for windows 7 that monitors activity and ram?

Right now my OC is setting at 3.4 ghz.
Is everything by the books here? anything wrong?

I really wouldn't overclock with the stock heatsink fan that came with the CPU. Also you should look in the AMD section, I know there is at least one good guide for OC'ing Phenom II CPU's.

I got the 212 plus as HSF, switched out the stock one.

I was just about to link the same guide. I used it when I had several Phenom II's and it's good information across the board.

No worries, it's good information and should be disseminated to all Phenom II OC'ers.

I arrived a little late to this party, but did OP forget to bump voltages a little?
240MHz FSB will require a voltage increase in most chips.

Yes, the vcore
You might need a voltage increase on the CPU-NB too, since you are running it over spec, 2000MHz.

You might want to change your RAM speed in BIOS to 533, so you can go up to 250MHz FSB without oceing your RAM.

What's your default vcore for that chip?
