Over clocking questions??? 2.8 to 3.5ghz - Page 2

Not sure, it idles alot around 1.33v though and fluctuates as low as 1.28v

As for the ram, you mean the part in the bios where it list 200 mhz, then 266 and so on?

I need to change my profile below though, my ram while its DDR2, I thinks its lower than 667, I think its 333 or 300 variety.

Yes, 266MHz should correspond to 533MHz final speed, and 333MHz should be 667

Can you post a CPU-Z validation?

You should try to put some cooling solution on the VRM area. check this for more info.

Will I be changing the vcore voltage any?

The Ram settings where it list 200, 266, and so on is set on auto, do I just go and change that to manual and use the 266 mhz option?

also what is the VRM area?

The VRM's are those things left to the CPU socket. They control the voltage supplied to the CPU. Think of it as the CPU own power supply. It gets hotter if you feed the CPU with extra voltage, especially a 125W TPD CPU. Extra heat will degrade them and might even kill the board.

If you choose a FSB of 250Mhz, chances are that it will require a voltage bump to be stable under prime or folding.
Remember when you set FSB as 258 and you couldn't boot to windows?
The 266MHz option will serve to keep your RAM at spec speed (if they are 667MHz) with a FSB of 250MHz, and so you don't need to worry about the RAM rendering your system unstable when finding a sweet spot for the CPU. You can work with the ram later

Could I keep the OC at 3.4 ghz now without changing anything?

With a bus speed of 243 or should I try and tune it down a little to 3.3 ghz?

Until you don't have the VRM's cool enough, i wouldn't reccomend going crazy on OCeing that chip
If you're stable at 3.4GHz without tuning voltages or RAM or anything else, i would check temps and keep it that way

I havent ever had problems with the OCs very much and seems stable according to Prime 95 and OTTC as I made a topic here about it http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/11...l#post15203361

Now when booting into windows it seems to drag on doing that like when it refused to boot up when the Bus speed was at 258, but it does boot up. Their was one instance earlier the boot screen had said failed overclock or whatever, push F1 to setup or F2 for default, i would get that problem every once in a while even at the 3.2 ghz clock where the bus speed was 229.

Although OCing the video card has been another story, the PC seems to go nuts when OCing the video card in conjunction with OC the CPU. I was doing the Windows Assessment test and it went nuts when testing the video, got ATI Display drivers has stopped working error twice so I had to shut it down. So I had to monitor the heat it was generating in 3d Mark advantage to see peak temps under load was hitting 78c. Which I never seen it get that hot considering their is an antec cooling fan beneath the video cards intake fan.

So I dont know if OC the CPU is making video clocking unstable or the problem is mostly the video card itself.

If you run the CPU at stock you don't have that issue?

How much above spec are you running the GPU?

You mean the issue of the slow booting into the Windows OS? No, never had that problem at 3.2 ghz I know, nor at stock settings.

If you mean the F1 and F2 on the boot screen, never had that problem at stock.

The ATI HD 5770 stock settings are; 850/1200 thats Core and Memory
What I had done was maxxed out the Core to 960 and the Memory was 1350 I do believe.

I recently just tuned that down though to 900/1250 and I believe that was the numbers I was running when I ran 3d mark benchmark test.

I have not retried the windows assessment test again though.

But going back to Prime 95, it says self test passed, this is the small test done.

You need a blend test to make sure the system is stable and ready to any kind of load. If you pass blend you may not be stable running the f@h client though

No, i meant the ATI driver crashing
It should unstable OC then mate. Not having crashes at 900/1250, are you?
