Air Colled SLI

Thread Starter
I have Three ATI 6970's in SLI and playing the battle field 3 beta for around 15 min my #1 card peaks about 96.5C and the rest sit around 60-70c, i wanted to know your guys thought on the temps, and running my fan speed at 100% the temp drops to about 62C in game on the #1 card. But am not sure on running the fan speed at 100 do to wear and tear...

CrossFire* or Tri-Fire, not SLI

Card 1 needs more airflow inside case

The fans will be fine at 100%. First does your case have good airflow? My case does but I still run my gpus at 100% when gaming.
running it 100% is fine if you don't mind the noise. I always do this with msi afterburner. at desktop/2d mode I have it at a quiet fan setting but when gaming I always have it at 100% even though I have good spacing/airflow between my cards I still want them nice and cool.

not to much my case it meant more for water cooling, i just felt like my temps are high, fan wise just wanted to know cause there is about a 30C different in temp

like what I said running it at 100% is fine. I'd rather run it at 100% and get good temps than running it with low fan speed but getting 90'ish degrees on the gpu's

this is where the 800D shows its weakness... the 800D is a negative pressured case which means the GPU fans will have to work that much harder to keep things cool. my recommendation in resolving this problem is to reverse the airflow of the 3 fans on the top of the case (where you'd mount the 360 rad) and make them into intake fans(after you get some nice air filters for them of course). this will make the case a positive pressure case and will likely fix your problem. 1 major caveat is to make sure the case is not stuck in a corner somewhere or under a desk. give it plenty of open space so the hot air isn't sucked back into the case by the top fans.

air cooling just fine with a positive pressure 800D, SLI 580's
replace all the stock fans and add some
find a balance between CFM/noise
idles low 40's, peaks at mid to high 80's
