I'm equally surprised and not surprised.

On one hand, that's quite impressive for the older dual core, but it does have Hyper-threading, and at that clock speed, very few games will be CPU limited.

On the other hand, I remember when Nehalem first hit (the Core i7 9x0s), the Core 2 Duo E8x00s at stock were keeping pace or even topping them many of the times in games too (in productive/heavy work it was obviously different, just as I'd expect it to between the two CPUs compared here.). So, yeah, it makes sense since it's sort of been seen before.

Hi I have personally made a similar switch, going from Core i3 530 @ 4.4Ghz to Core i7 920 @ 2.66Ghz and all I can say about gaming is that it feels a lot smother on the i7 and I think it has to do with the Min FPS wich for me are twice as important than average FPS.

I'm reinstalling all my games and the biggest difference are in Resident Evil 5, GTA IV: Liberty City Stories and Bad Company 2.

On the review, not impressed but there is a big difference indeed.

Obviously you get what you paid for.

No they aren't....a single gtx580 is the bottleneck in that bench not the CPU. Thats proved by all quad's being within ~5% of each other. Furthermore, on the page you got that comparison from, there's only a 3 FPS difference from the 2600k at 3.5ghz VS 5.2ghz....that also proves GPU bottleneck. Just put the settings and resolution down so the GPU isn't the bottleneck and you will have a much different result.

AND furthermore yet thats a BETA review...lets see the real deal...from what I've seen BF3 highly favors quad cores (meaning I3's would be noticeably less FPS)

this one retail, with lower res

700

and, i just tested.. my clocked i3 550 (sig) has exactly the same fps with my friends 3.6Ghz i3 530 (same GPU)??? WTH !!, its really gpu bound eh..

1680x1050 with only one 580 is still bottlenecked. You have to test like 1366x768 at the most, with settings on low....or, 580 SLI.

it is gpu bound, when coupled with any single gpu videocard. I was actually recently benching i3 2100 vs i3 550 @ 4.3Ghz and results were pretty much identical. Not even worth posting all benches, ran like 5 different games and results were same.
